More than your degree

The aim of the careers section is to improve history students’ understanding of the value of their humanities degree and ultimately assist them in attaining employment. History enables you to develop valuable transferable skills that are recognised by a large number of graduate employers.

We will be working closely with our sponsors throughout the year! What’s more, we will bring you careers events from a variety of different sectors – for example, in the legal, financial, teaching and marketing sectors amongst others. If there is a career path that you are interested in and we aren’t accommodating then please get in touch! We are more than happy to approach firms large or small, to come and speak to HistSoc members.

We are in the process of getting more companies on board next year and including more networking events and opportunities to have insight days in the city to see firms in action.

One of the things that we have been keen to develop is the student alumni network which can help students understand how their skillset and knowledge will be of use to potential employers. We are trying to bridge the gap between the student and graduate, speaking to ex-HistSoc members who can give advice to current undergraduates.
